Dead Clicks [2025 BETA]
An update to the dead click issues grouping algorithm.
We're very excited to announce that the new dead clicks algorithm is a major improvement over the current dead clicks algorithm! 🎉 The launch of the new algorithm starts with a beta that is now enabled for all Pro customers.
FAQs
When does the beta start/end?
The beta started in December 2024 and will run into early 2025.
What should I expect from new dead clicks?
We see an average improvement in fixing under-grouped (duplicative) dead clicks by >80%! This means a lot less Dead Click issues to review and more clarity and confidence of the impact of dead clicks on your users.
Dead clicks were previously grouped by text. For many customers this causes multiple issue events to be grouped together that should really be in separate groups (ie. multiple forms have a "Submit" button that error out in different ways) and others it causes multiple issue groups to be created for the same problem (ie. "Pay $50" is probably the same as "Pay $75" and should be grouped together).
The new dead clicks algorithm more accurately groups dead clicks together that are more likely to be related based on their context and location within your app. These updated dead clicks will provide a better basis for a single area of improvement in your applications. We also expect the new algorithm to result in fewer, more meaningful dead clicks that reduce their noise and make it easier to look through them.
How do I see the distribution of text from the dead clicked elements?
Since a dead click issue can now include events of the same element with different texts, it's helpful to know the distribution of text that are included in the issue's events. That can be found on the Breakdown tab of an Issue Details view. Under "Event Distribution" there's a new breakdown field called "Text".
What happens to my old dead clicks?
When the new dead clicks algorithm is turned on for your LogRocket organization, all projects within the organization will have the new algorithm enabled. Your old dead clicks will then be automatically updated and shown according to the new algorithm. Any triaged dead clicks you've made with the older algorithm will still exist on the back-end for the near term, but long term these issues will no long accumulate events and be retired. You are encouraged to triage the dead clicks from the updated algorithm as you see fit.
Is there a migration of old triaged dead clicks to new dead clicks?
There is no automated migration of triaged dead clicks because the algorithms are too different to accurately automate this. However, our team has manually migrated customers with >5 triaged dead clicks from the past 90 days to ensure a smooth transition.
