Enriching sessions with custom events
Sometimes it's useful to include information beyond the UI and data layers in session recordings. LogRocket's custom events provide an open-ended platform for bringing additional data into your session recordings.
Often we see custom events being used to enrich sessions with data that is specific to your individual business. A classic example would be an internal product SKU: searching for sessions where users viewed a particular SKU can be a fast way to gain valuable insight, but what if the SKU is never actually shown to the user on-screen? Using a custom event, you can record the SKU and view it in individual sessions (in the event timeline), use it as a filter to find specific sessions, and use it for building metrics.
Some customers have previously tagged events for use in other analytics tools; those pre-existing tags can be easily repurposed into LogRocket custom events, providing continuity for users who are familiar with a specific set of events. Custom events can also be used to incorporate A/B testing data into sessions, adding experiment and cohort information as metadata that can be viewed in individual sessions and measured in aggregate across all sessions.
Unlike other analytics tools on the market, LogRocket captures events without the need for tagging. This saves developers precious time and energy, which in turn means that brief development efforts can be focused strategically on deploying custom events to enrich session recordings with business-specific data.
